The 2026 Home Loan Guide

Every home loan compared in one place, including manufactured-home financing, so you can see which one fits your credit and down payment. Read it here or get it emailed.

Which home loan is right for you?

There's no single best mortgage, there's the one that fits your credit, your down payment, and your goals, including financing for a manufactured or modular home on a permanent foundation. Here's the plain-English map.

VA580-620None for eligible borrowersVeterans, active duty

Can you finance a manufactured home?

A manufactured home on a permanent foundation, titled as real property, can qualify for FHA, VA, USDA, and conventional financing, not just a chattel loan. FHA is the most common path for manufactured homes given its flexible credit and down payment. The home generally must meet HUD code and be affixed to a permanent foundation. We confirm the setup before you shop.

What credit score do you need to buy a home?

Lower than most people assume. FHA and VA open at 580, USDA at 640, conventional at 620, and jumbo usually wants 700+. A 600 score has real options, and a focused 60-90 days can move you a full tier.
